At times I think hashtags have almost become somewhat of a joke, the essay of hashtags at the end of a post suddenly become the hero of the post as the author misguidedly thinks more hashtags mean better reach and engagement. Or maybe narcism is just taking control.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a frequent user of hashtags both commercially and for my personal posts on Twitter and Instagram but I am sure several brands and friends come to mind when hashtag abuse is the subject!
Hashtags if used selectively and thoughtfully can drive reach, engagement and help audiences follow a specific conversation. It makes perfect sense that hashtag best practice is not a ‘one hat fits all’ across the many social media channels that use them.
